Dr. Irem Unalan, alumna (former PhD student) and currently post-doctoral researcher in the Institute of Biomaterials (WW7), has won the Best Doctoral Thesis Award 2023 of the German Society for Biomaterials (DGBM).

Irem earned her Dr.-Ing. degree in 2022 with a project that focused on the processing and characterisation of essential oils in engineered scaffolds made by electrospinning, 3D printing or foam replica technique, for potential applications in wound healing and hard tissue engineering, under supervision of Prof. Aldo R. Boccaccini. Her project was carried out with a DAAD fellowship.

The certificate was awarded during the Annual Meeting of the German Society for Biomaterials, held in Jena on 14-16 September 2023.

Congratulations!
