Materials Science at FAU among top 5
According to the latest Shanhai Ranking 2025, materials science at FAU Erlangen-Nuremberg is once again among the very best. FAU ranks among the top 150 universities in a total of 13 subjects, including Nanoscience & Nanotechnology and Materials Science and Engineering.
Materials science performs even better in the national ranking, with Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Science in third place and Materials Science and Engineering in fifth place.
The Shanghai Subject Ranking, officially known as the “Global Ranking of Academic Subjects,” has been conducted annually by Shanghai Jiao Tong University since 2009. Fifty-seven individual subjects in the fields of natural sciences, engineering, life sciences, medical sciences, and social sciences were evaluated using various indicators. The focus of the evaluation is on research. Among other things, scientific publications, citations, Nobel Prizes, and the Fields Medal are taken into account. More than 2,000 universities worldwide were ranked for the 2025 ranking.
