Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Aldo Roberto Boccaccini, holder of the Chair of Biomaterials, was awarded the 2026 Heyn Commemorative Medal by the German Society for Materials Science (DGM).
He was selected for this honor in recognition of his significant contributions to biomaterials science. His research has had a particularly strong influence on the development of bioactive glasses, regenerative biomaterials, bioactive coatings, tissue engineering, and biofabrication.
In this interview with the DGM, Prof. Boccaccini discusses his research and emphasizes that interdisciplinary research and international scientific networks are indispensable for the materials science and engineering community.
The Heyn Medal, the DGM’s highest honor, recognizes outstanding achievements in the field of materials science and engineering. In particular, it may be awarded for the lifetime scientific achievements of an outstanding individual.
The award ceremony will take place during DGM Day on September 28, 2026, in Darmstadt and online.
