The German Society for Material Science (DGM) awards PD Benoit Merle the Masing Memorial Award 2021 “in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the expansion of the understanding of the mechanical properties of thin layers and the further development of nanomechanical test methods”.

The suggestion and the laudation were made by Prof. Mathias Göken. The official handover of the certificate took place by Prof. Gerhard Schneider (DGM President) at DGM Day on September 6th, 2021. PD Benoit Merle then gave a short lecture on his research activities and thanked everyone involved and all chair members for their support.

Description

The award is named after the longstanding DGM chairman and honorary chairman Georg Masing.

The Masing Memorial Award honors independent scientific research work by young DGM members from the field of materials science and technology that has been published within the last two years before the award ceremony.

The Masing Memorial Award consists of a certificate, in which the granting of the appreciation is confirmed with an indication of the excellent work, as well as a medal. The awarding is made based on a proposal by the award committee and a resolution by the DGM board. The price announcement takes place publicly on the occasion of a central event of the DGM of the corresponding year (e.g. DGM day). The award will also be announced in the central presentation media of the DGM.
